El Jebel is a small, unincorporated community with about 3,800 residents. It is along Colorado State Highway 82 between West Basalt and Blue Lake. Real estate in El Jebel is made up of condominiums, duplexes, townhomes and single-family residences not far from the highway and El Jebel Road. Buyers who secure real estate in El Jebel are often looking for convenience and affordability. It is less than 20 miles from Aspen's four ski resorts, so many seasonal resort workers live in El Jebel.

El Jebel doesn't have a considerable downtown area, but there is a grouping of businesses at El Jebel Road and Highway 82. There are a few restaurants, an auto parts store, gas station, car wash and preschool on the north side of Highway 82. The most popular attraction in El Jebel is the local bowling alley, which is a popular gathering spot on nights and weekends.

South of Highway 82 is Orchard Plaza, a business district that is actually part of West Basalt. Orchard Plaza is home to a City Market grocery store and the valley's biggest cinema, Movieland.. There's also a few banks, a liquor store and a pet shop here.

El Jebel is only a few minutes from the trendy Willits subdivision that is part of West Basalt. Willits offers contemporary mountain living that's more like living in an East Coast city than a quiet mountain town. There's chic coffee shops, highly-rated dining establishments and hip apres-ski and after-hours sites. It's the spot where the Roaring Fork Valley's young professionals come to hang after a day at work or on the slopes.

Residents who choose El Jebel for their forever home can enjoy skiing in Aspen, shopping in Glenwood Springs, and fishing, hiking and biking right outside their door. The popular Rio Grande Trail and beautiful Roaring Fork River provide ample opportunity to get out and about to explore the valley's numerous charms. Real estate is considerably more affordable than Aspen. Buyers looking for more "bang for their buck" can buy a big home in El Jebel for the price of a ski condo in Aspen.

El Jebel is less than 20 minutes from Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Snowmass, and only about 15 minutes from skiing and snowboarding at Buttermilk Mountain. Skiing at Sunlight Mountain and rides at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park are less than 30 minutes from El Jebel in Glenwood Springs.

Neighborhood highlights

• A majority of housing for El Jebel is east of El Jebel Road to Basalt Mountain. This area offers an abundance of single-family homes that range from smaller two-bedroom homes to more elaborate residences with five or more bedrooms. Homes off of Shadowrock Drive, Overlook Ridge and Adele Drive are closer to Highway 82. Residences off of Lava Drive, Floyd Drive and Clark Drive are further away.

• El Jebel Road eventually turns into Upper Cattle Creek Road. This more remote area is removed from the highway and has many undeveloped lots and vacant l and for future homes.

• To the east of El Jebel Road are homes on James Circle off of JW Drive. The Blue Lake community is along JW Drive if you continue west. Blue Lake features newer homes and well-kept residences that range from two to six bedrooms.
